Makin' Horsepower

Engines, turbines, motor, jets, internal combustion, diesel, rotary, V-twin, V-8, V-16, radial....

You Tube Video ...

A very long time ago, there was a guy from Akron Ohio named Art Arfons  ( I think that is his correct name )...he was a pioneer using surplus JET ENGINES and adapting them to the dragstrip.
He had a specialty car( The Green Monster ! )  made up to basically hold the surplus GE Jet engine to 4 wheels, it was a hit on all of the dragstrips in the Midwest.  I recall reading an interview with him, possibly from a very old Hot Rod magazine. When he first acquired a jet engine, they took the engine, bolted it to a large concrete pad on his farm and started that mother up. When they hit the gas, a chicken coop on the farm many yards behind the exhaust, blew up and caught fire. They then realized, Hey- this might be alright !
Go, Art, Go !
